And the armies in heaven were following Him on white horses, having been dressed in fine linen, white and clean. (Rev 19:14)

And out of His mouth proceeds a sharp, double-edged sword, so that with it He might strike the nations. And He will shepherd them with an iron rod. And He treads the winepress of the wine of the wrath of Almighty God. (Rev 19:15)

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name having been written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev 19:16)

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the great supper of God, (Rev 19:17)

so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who ride on them, and the flesh of all people, free and bond, both small and great." (Rev 19:18)

And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, having been gathered together to make war against Him who rode on the horse and against His army. (Rev 19:19)

Then the beast was apprehended, and with him the false prophet who had performed the signs before him, by which he had deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. (Rev 19:20)

And the rest were slain with the sword which proceeds from the mouth of Him who rode on the horse. And all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh. (Rev 19:21)

Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' "And he said to me, "These are the true words of God." (Rev 19:9)

And I fell before his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do not! I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." (Rev 19:10)

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. (Rev 19:11)

His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns, having names written, and a name written that no one knows except Himself. (Rev 19:12)

And He is clothed in a robe having been dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. (Rev 19:13)

Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!" (Rev 19:5)

And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, and like the sound of many waters, and like the sound of mighty thunders, saying, "Hallelujah! For the Lord God Almighty has begun to reign! (Rev 19:6)

Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let us give Him glory, for the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His wife has prepared herself." (Rev 19:7)

And to her it was granted that she should be dressed in fine linen, bright and pure, for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. (Rev 19:8)

Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. (Rev 17:9)

And there are seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And whenever he comes, he must abide for a short time. (Rev 17:10)

And the beast which was, and is not, is also an eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition. (Rev 17:11)

And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet have received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings for one hour with the beast. (Rev 17:12)

These have one purpose, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Rev 17:13)

These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, and elect, and faithful." (Rev 17:14)

And he led me away in the Spirit, into a deserted place. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns. (Rev 17:3)

And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup being filled with abominations and the filthiness of the fornication of the earth. (Rev 17:4)

And on her forehead a name was written, a mystery: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (Rev 17:5)

I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. (Rev 17:6)

But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast carrying her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. (Rev 17:7)

The beast which you saw was, and is not, and is about to ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth shall marvel, whose name is not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and shall be present. with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and those dwelling on the earth became drunk from the wine of her fornication." (Rev 17:2)

Why trials?

I've heard it said too many times, unfortunately, that God does not cause, or bring, trials into the life of a believer.

However, Psalm 66:9-10 sheds some light on this question:

Psa 66:8-12  Oh, bless our God, you peoples! And make the voice of His praise to be heard,  (9)  Who keeps our soul among the living, And does not allow our feet to be moved.  (10)  For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined.  (11)  You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs.  (12)  You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.

Notice some of the things that the Psalmist says that God does in the life of a believer:

1. He does not allow our feet to be moved.

2. God tests us.

3. God refines us, by turning up the heat in our lives, to burn away any impurities from us, to make us more like Jesus Christ.

4. He leads us into the net--that is, into the trial of affliction.

5.He causes men to ride over us. Perhaps to totally rid us of ourselves, and any pride.

6. He causes us to go through the fire (Dan 3:21)

7. He delivers us in due time.

This shouldn't surprise us. The Bible said that this was part of the sanctification process:

Romans 8:29 says, "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren."

Why trials?

To make us more like the Son of God!

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation, He will also make the way out, so as for you to be able to bear it." (1 Cor 10:13)

God is sovereign. He reserves the right to use any means necessary to bring about His will.

God is the One who refines us. Not Satan.

After intense study for many years regarding this verse, I have come to the educated conclusion that the Byzantine Majority Text has the correct reading in Revelation 13:14.

Here it is:

"And he deceives my own people who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived."

The Majority Text just adds the personal pronoun to this verse, enhancing this verse from "he deceives those" to "he deceives mine." (literally, those belonging to me, or, tous emous in Greek.)

Now humor me for a moment, and agree with me, that this is the correct reading...

In your opinions, what would that mean, the phrase, "My own people"?

1.  Jews

2. Christians

14 And he deceives my own people who dwell on the earth by the signs which were given to him to do before the beast, saying to those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who had the woundand came to life! from the sword.

Notice this is John speaking, not God.

Question: Where do you want to be found?

More than that I also consider all things to be loss, on account of the surpassing worth of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have sustained the loss of all things, and I consider them to be rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ, (Phil 3:8)

and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith; (Phil 3:9)

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. (Rev 16:13)

For they are demonic spirits performing signs, which go forth to the kings of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Rev 16:14)

Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and guards his garments, lest he should walk naked and they should see his shame." (Rev 16:15)

And he gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. (Rev 16:16)

Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, "It is done!" (Rev 16:17)

And there were lightnings and thunders, and noises; and there was a great earthquake, such as had not occurred since men were on the earth, so great an earthquake, so great! (Rev 16:18)

Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given to him to burn men with fire. (Rev 16:8)

And men were burned with severe burns, and men blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent to give Him glory. (Rev 16:9)

Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues from the pain. (Rev 16:10)

They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their ulcers, and they did not repent of their works. (Rev 16:11)

Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl upon the great river Euphrates, and its water dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. (Rev 16:12)

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God on the earth." (Rev 16:1)

So the first went off and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a bad and malignant ulcer came upon the men having the mark of the beast, and those who worshiped his image. (Rev 16:2)

Then the second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a dead man; and every living thing in the sea died. (Rev 16:3)

Then the third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and into the springs of water, and it became blood. (Rev 16:4)

And I heard the angel of the waters saying: "You are righteous, the One who is, and who was, holy, because You have judged these things; (Rev 16:5)

for they shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You gave them blood to drink; for they are worthy." (Rev 16:6)

And I heard the altar saying, "Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments." (Rev 16:7)

After these things I saw, and the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened. (Rev 15:5)

And out of the temple came the seven angels having the seven plagues, who were dressed in pure bright linen, and having their chests girded with golden belts. (Rev 15:6)

Then one of the four living beings gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever. (Rev 15:7)

And the temple was filled by the smoke from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter into the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished. (Rev 15:8)

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, because in them the wrath of God is finished. (Rev 15:1)

And I saw something like a glassy sea having been mixed with fire, and those who prevailed over the beast, and over his image, and over the number of his name, standing on the glassy sea, having the harps of God. (Rev 15:2)

And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Righteous and true are Your ways, O King of the nations! (Rev 15:3)

Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, because Your righteous judgments have been manifested." (Rev 15:4)

And another angel came out of the temple, crying out with a loud voice to Him that sat on the cloud, "Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the hour has come to reap, because the harvest of the earth has withered." (Rev 14:15)

So He that sat on the cloud swung His sickle onto the earth, and the earth was harvested. (Rev 14:16)

Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. (Rev 14:17)

And another angel came out from the altar, having authority over the fire, and he called with a loud cry to the one having the sharp sickle, saying, "Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the grape clusters of the vine of the earth, because the grapes are ripe." (Rev 14:18)

So the angel swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and he cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. (Rev 14:19)

And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses' bridles, about one thousand six hundred stadia. (Rev 14:20)
